1) What is bariatric Surgery ?

 Bariatric surgery, also called weight loss surgery, is a category of surgical operations intended to help people with obesity lose weight. Bariatric surgery procedures work by modifying your digestive system-usually your stomach and sometimes also your small intestine to regulate how many calories you can consume and absorb. They can also reduce the hunger signals that travel from your digestive system to your brain. 

2) Who can do the bariatric? 

Commonly your BMI is 35to 39.9 obesity and you have a serious weight -related health problem, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or severe sleep apnea. And patients with PCOS problems are recommended to do bariatric. 

3) How long I will have to stay in hospital?

4) When can I eat regular foods?

5) How much weight can I expect to lose?

6) How long does the recovery process takes? 

A: For wound healing, it typically takes around 7 days, and patients can usually return to work 7 days after the operation 

7) Do you have to lose weight first before surgery? 

Some patients are required to lose few kilograms of their weight before weight loss surgery is performed. For other patients, losing few kilos. For other patients, losing just 3to 5 kgs right before surgery is enough to reduce the risk of complications. It’s important to follow your surgeon’s pre-surgery diet guidelines. 

8) Will I be able to return to my regular diet after weight loss surgery? 

After bariatric weight loss surgery, you won’t return to your previous regular diet. Instead, you’ll follow a structured dietary plan to help your body adjust and to maximize the benefits of the surgery. Initially, you’ll start with a liquid diet, then move to pureed foods, followed by soft foods, and eventually, small portions of regular foods. Long-term, you’ll need to adopt healthier eating habits, focusing on nutrient-dense foods and avoiding high-calorie, sugary, and fatty foods. This dietary change is essential for maintaining weight loss and overall health. 

9) Can I get pregnant after doing bariatric surgery 

It is imperative that you wait at least 12 to 18 months following any kind of weight loss operation before becoming pregnant. You can get pregnant after the right number of months have passed and your weight has stabilized. 

10) Will I regain weight loss after bariatric surgery? 

In some cases, it is possible to regain weight after weight loss surgery, and there can be many causes. Patients are encouraged to contact their surgeon office for a follow up appointment with a nurse practitioner and a dietician to discuss weight regain and work towards reversing it.
